Victorious Dead The Asarlaà Wars Book Two Volume 2 Marie Andreas 9780999081112 Books Reviews
- Vas is on a mission to steal a key when her dead second Deven, a gahan, is right in front of her. Racing to get away from the authorities, they can't stop to investigate why he doesn't recognize her. A crewmember says he saw a different Deven, but with pirate tats and a captain of a ship. Deven is an anomoly, he said he would come back to her as he was blown up to save her ship in Warrior Wench. The last Asarlai, Marli, materializes every time they need her. Strange fighters in all black are invading the outer rim, killing everyone. A mysterious object survives an explosion. A missing government, fantastical weapons, planetary war. Vas is supposed to save them all. Fantastic second book.
- An excellent addition to the series. Sprinkled with humor, every bit as action-packed and filled with mysteries as the first, Ms Andreas knows how to keep a story moving and keep you on the edge of your seat. Her characters are very human (even though most of them aren't) and appealing, and I must say that Deven is one of the most alluring heroes I've encountered recently. I'm really looking forward to diving into Defiant Ruin, the next (and I think final) installment.
I'd really like to give this book 4.5 stars - I reserve my 5-star reviews for books I can't put down and re-read almost immediately and often multiple times. Those are few and far between, but The Asarlai Wars is pretty darn close. - I really enjoyed the first book in the Asarlai Wars series, Warrior Wench, so when I learned the next book was out I lost no time in grabbing it and gobbling it up. It was another fantastic action packed adventure with the mercenary captain Vaslisha Tor Dain, her second-in-command who is newly returned from the dead, and her intrepid crew. With help from the immortal Marli, the last of the Asarlai race, or so they believe, they are fighting to stop new found enemies and save the universe once again. With Vas, I love the combination of hard fighting merc with bits of humor and soft-heartedness towards people who need her help. Marli is also a great character, mysterious, scary, but always there just when she’s needed. The rest of the crew are great at their jobs and there for Vas, so she knows she can rely on all of them, including Devon, who is also her love interest. I look forward to reading the conclusion of the series, it can’t get here soon enough for me.
- Wow, what a great 2nd book in the series! Usually the first books are the best, but that's not the case with this series.
Victorious Dead continues the tale of Vas and the crew of the Warrior Wench. It kept my attention so riveted, I couldn't put the book down--too bad, housework! Despite catastrophic attacks on her and the crew, Vas remains strong, and builds on her relationship with an Asarlia that should be a fearsome enemy. The conclusion of this book wraps up what occurred to that point but obviously leaves the reader waiting breathlessly for what Ms Andreas claims will be the finale (of the series? I guess).
After reading so many SyFy books that are all about the sex and not the story, I'll stick with authors like Marie Andreas. Thanks for such great writing! - Thank goodness I already have the next book ready to jump into! I am loving this series...the characters, action, and story line has caused me to stay up way too long and ignore way too many chores! These books are terrific and I highly recommend them!
- Another great book this series! More SF than SFR, with a ton of action and featuring a kicka** captain and her ship of mercenaries with a bit of geekiness and a lot of heart. Marie Andreas' style reminds me a lot of Lindsay Buroker's style, so if you like Buroker, I highly recommend you check out Andreas, too.
- This second installment keeps up the pace and fun of the first. As mysteries are solved, new ones are revealed, keeping the reader interested and engaged.
- I love all of the characters in this series. Me. Andreas has created a fascinating universe full of mysteries and lots of great battles to keep everyone interested. I look forward to reading the last installment (for now?) of Vas' story.
Highly recommended!
